Shalayne has always been an avid reader, even before the Harry Potter craze. She requested books for Christmas, for her birthday and when she went to the mall.........she would head straight to the book stores. She even spent all her allowance on books. Her personal book colletion is eclectic including everything from romance novels and Dean Koontz thrillers to Jane Austin books and the Harry Potter series. When a Harry Potter book came out in the stores, Shalayne had her parents John and Ronda scouring stores and standing in line. She would then disappear into her room for the weekend (emerging only to eat when reminded) until she had completed the book. This became her routine with every Harry Potter release.

Shalayne Alexandria was 15 when her mother suggested that she attempt to write a book of her own. The first book was completed when she was 16. From there she was on a roll. Books 2, 3 and 4 followed in quick succession proving to her mother she was serious and committed to the work and the process. To get feedback, the book manuscript was published as an e-book. The response from teens, as well as adults, was overwhelmingly positive. Shalayne's mother wanted to keep up the momentum of encouragement for Shalayne so she researched the book publishing industry. She learned it could take at least 18 months to 2 years to get a literary agent and at least that long to get a publisher. So Shalayne's mother decided there was one way she could give Shalayne a definitive show of support. Inspired by the creativity of Shalayne and her siblings, this mother of 5 created a small publishing cottage (definitely not a house) and launched 5Muses Publishing to get the Nyville High series to market sooner rather than later. And Shalayne's readers are very glad she did!
